In a grand celebration, the Afikpo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State honored Lilian Ude, a standout player from Nigeria’s U19 female cricket team, for her impressive performance at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.
Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Nwachi, suspended council activities to join in the festivities, expressing his delight and pride in Lilian’s achievements.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate Lilian’s brilliance in cricket, and we’re committed to supporting the development of cricket in Ebonyi State,” he said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi, Patricia Obila, who pledged her support for Lilian’s development. Commissioners Prof. Amari Omaka and Prof. Nwogo Obasi also congratulated Lilian on her impressive performance.
Lilian Ude made headlines as part of the Nigeria Cricket U19 women’s team that defeated New Zealand and Ireland in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Her achievements have inspired a new generation of cricket enthusiasts in Nigeria.
The celebration also marked the launch of the 6th edition of the NCF/PwC National U17 Championship, which was bowled off by the LGA Chairman, Hon Timothy Nwachi, and his Deputy, Hon Mrs Josephine Nwogo, at the Government Secondary School in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.
