The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has planned a grand welcome for the U19 Women’s Cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, who made a stunning debut at the 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

Despite being newcomers to the tournament, the Nigerian girls defied expectations by defeating New Zealand in the preliminary stage and advancing to the Super Six stage. They went on to beat Ireland, shared a point with England, and narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot.

Led by captain Piety Lucky, the team finished the tournament in an impressive 5th position, securing an instant qualification for the next edition.

As the team’s flight is expected to arrive at the Muritala Mohammed Airport on Friday, the NCF has planned a hero’s welcome, complete with an airport reception party. The team will also be hosted at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and treated to a dinner party.

Sir Chika Okoro, South East Representative on Nigeria’s Cricket Board, has called on Nigerians to give the team a standing ovation, saying, “Nigerians should stand up for the U19 Women’s Cricket Team. The girls have stamped their feet on the world’s cricket ground and done us proud.”

Okoro also hinted that individual and corporate awards will be presented to the team, and expressed his desire for the girls to receive a presidential handshake.

The NCF’s grand welcome is a testament to the team’s remarkable achievement, and Nigerians are urged to come out and celebrate these trailblazing young athletes.
