Nigeria’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mabdul Mohammed has promised to mobilize massive support from the Nigerian community for the NPFL Champions Akwa United ahead of their CAF Champions League second leg preliminary round game against CR Belouizdad scheduled for Sunday September 19 at the Stade Omar Hamadi by 9pm.
Ambassador Mohammed spoke while receiving Akwa United’s delegation consisting of 24 players, five coaches, backroom staff and other top officials at the Houari Boumediene Airport on arrival onboard a chartered Ibom Airline exactly 12:03am on Saturday morning.
He congratulated Akwa United for winning the NPFL title and wished the team success in their CAF Champions League campaign.
“We are glad to welcome you as Nigeria’s champions and as one of the representatives in this year’s CAF Champions League competition. We wish to congratulate you for your exploits in the NPFL last season. As you will be playing on Sunday, we will mobilize Nigerians here in Algeria to come and cheer you to victory. We here in Algiers wish you the very best in your campaign.
Responding on behalf of the club, the Chairman Elder Paul Bassey expressed gratitude to Ambassador Mohammed for the warm reception accorded the team and assured that Akwa United will make Nigeria proud by qualifying to the next round of the competition.
“On behalf of Akwa United, we are really grateful for the warm reception you have given to us. We are here as the Champions of Nigeria and it’s our obligation to give our country a good representation. We are aware that we have many Nigerians here in Algiers, we will really appreciate their encouragement and support during the match on Sunday. We wish to sincerely thank the Nigerian embassy for all the help even before our arrival. We hope to reciprocate that gesture by getting a positive result on Sunday.
Akwa United with victory in the first leg played last Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo courtesy of an Ubong Friday’s 87th minute of play, will have it’s first training session at Stade Omar Hamadi tonight ahead of the clash on Sunday which will kickoff at 9pm.
