In a shocking move, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This decision comes just two weeks after his resignation from the PDP, citing the party’s inability to instill discipline and condemn anti-party activities.
Jandor, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State election, made this announcement at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos. He stated that his decision to join the APC was driven by the party’s commitment to winning elections and forming a government that prioritizes the welfare, security, and development of the people.
In a veiled criticism of the PDP’s leadership in Lagos, Jandor noted that the APC has a leader who, despite his flaws, is committed to winning for the party. In contrast, the PDP’s leader in Lagos has a history of working against the party’s interests during elections.
Jandor’s defection to the APC marks a significant shift in Lagos politics, as he brings with him a large following and a reputation for being a strong campaigner. His decision is likely to be seen as a boost to the APC’s chances in future elections in Lagos.
In his address, Jandor also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recognized his contributions to democracy and nation-building. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, who had been urging him to return to the APC.
