The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has conclude plans to host the 2015 edition of the media games tagged; Med-View NUJ Media Games.
At a press conference held Wednesday September 2 at SWAN secretariat, National Stadium Surulere, Lagos, to herald the games, the Chairman of the Council Comrade Deji Elumoye, said this year’s edition of the games would start on Monday September 7 and close on Saturday September 12, which incidentally is the same day the present executive would be one year in office.
Speaking Elumoye said the opening ceremony of the Med-View NUJ Media Games would take place at the Legacy Pitch, National stadium Surulere, with the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, as Special Guest of Honour. While Alhaji Muneer Bankole, MD/CEO of Med-View Airlines, sponsors of the games would be the Chairman of the day. The ceremony would include a match past by all participating media houses as well as the opening football match between the defending champions of the games, Vanguard Newspaper and Complete Sports.
He also informed that apart from the sponsorship money increasing from N2.5m (2014) to N5m, the former format of 5-a-side adopted for the football event is now discarded and would be replaced by the 11-a-side format with every game from the group stages to the knockout phase lasting 30 minutes for each half. Other events of the Med-View NUJ Media Games include athletics (100m, 200m, marathon), Table tennis, Lawn Tennis, Scrabble, Ayo, Ludo amongst others. Adding that for this year, every participating team would receive cash incentives for their participation. Promising that this year’s edition of the games, would surpass the last edition.
While announcing a cash prize of 50, 000 naira for the best media house with the most outstanding social media coverage of the Med-View NUJ Media Games, Fred Edoreh, the Chairman, Lagos Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) challenge the media who the games is put together for to rise to the occasion and give the required publicity for the event. That every media house should get involved and give extensive report to the activities of the games, avowing that the gains of this would be, improved sponsorship and increased participation from corporate Nigeria, commending the Lagos Council of NUJ for their commitment to organizing the games and getting the present sponsors going with the vision of the games.
The closing ceremony of the Med-View NUJ Media Games takes place on Saturday, September 12 by 4pm at the Legacy Pitch with the Director General of the Lagos Sports Commission, Ayo Agbesanwa as the Chairman of the occasion. The ceremony would witness medal presentations as well as cash prizes awarded to winners.
