…As Abiodun Adewale Emerged Winner Of The Best Sports Journalist In The Print Category
The Governing Body of Sports Journalists in Africa, the International Sports Press Association Africa on Thursday night at La Maison De Presse, in the Ivorian city of Abidjan, honoured some illustrious and exceptional journalists for their contribution toward the growth of the profession.
The list of journalists honoured on the night Include former President of AIPS Africa Dr. Mitchell Obi.
Dr. Obi a presenter with Kenny FM in Lagos received a distinguish Service Marble at the Prix AIPS AFRIQUE powered by AGL at La Maison De Presse.
An elated Obi, said the Award is the much needed fillips to do more for the profession of sports journalism to flourish across the continent and beyond.
The PUNCH’s Abiodun Adewale emerged winner of the 2023 International Sports Press Association Africa Award as the best sports journalist in the print category on the continent.
Adewale’s story titled ‘Olusosun: Defying the odds, Lagos slum rises above filth, produces Africa’s football king’ came tops among the three nominations.

The winning story spotlighted the difficult and humble beginnings of the reigning African Player of The Year, Victor Osimhen, in the Lagos community, how he rose above the health and environmental hazards posed by the dumpsite in the vicinity to become one of the world’s best footballers of his generation.
Femi Fabunmi, of The News Guru, received the Award on behalf of Abiodun Adewale. He thanked AIPS, AGL and all who made the award a memorable one.
One of the official partners of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), for the 2023 AFCON, Africa Global Logistics, was the principal partner of the award.
The award ceremony was held on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, in Cote D’Ivoire, that enters the knockout phase on Saturday.
