The newly inaugurated leadership of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Alumni Association, Nasarawa State Chapter, on Wednesday, 22nd March, 2022, paid a familiarisation visit to the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, at his office in Lafia.
Led by its Chairman, Engr. Muhammed Sidi Sani, the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the Commissioner who is also an alumnus and executive member of the Association on his appointment as Commissioner, familiarise themselves with the Commissioner and Ministry and form a pivot of fraternity in order to move the Association forward.
Engr. Sidi disclosed that the Nasarawa State Chapter of the Association had been in existence for over two decades, adding that its major objectives are to promote peace and unity among its members and alma-mater, move the Association forward and find a common ground towards the growth and development of the society.
While presenting a copy of the Association’s Magazine to the Commissioner as souvenir, the Chairman appealed to him to expedite action in helping to meet the Association’s requests which he mentioned to include getting a database for all the alumni in the State, procuring a temporary secretariat and a road-worthy vehicle to enable them carry out their numerous tasks unhindered.
“This Association has enjoyed support from some individuals in the State before, but there are still more to be done if our set goals must be actualized, and we hope the requests of the Alumni will be granted, sir”, he stated.
Engr. Sidi thanked the Commissioner for granting the leadership of the Association audience despite the short notice, urging him to continue to be a worthy ambassador of the Institution in all his dispositions, stressing that ABU Zaria is known for excellence and setting the pace for others to follow.
Responding, the Commissioner, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, appreciated the Association for the visit, saying it’s a great honour done to him and the Ministry.
“I am so delighted to receive you today. ABU, Zaria is an Institution that’s so dear to me.”
He described ABU Zaria as a centre of excellence and where great individuals are made, noting that he was pleased with the composition of the State leadership of the Association, revealing that it’s filled with individuals with remarkable and impeccable character and quality.
He said he was optimistic that the new leadership will bring about the needed transformation in the Association, urging them to endeavour to come up with realisable projects that will uplift the image of the Association and make it a model of emulation by others.
The Commissioner assured that he would continue to lend his support to the Association to thrive, but called on members to also be committed and pull resources together for the progress of the body.
Amb. Yargwa emphasized that the Sule Administration has invested so much on youth and sports development, and is open to society-transforming ideas and innovations from any group or individual of genuine background.
He said the Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, though not an alumnus of the University, has great regards and admiration for the Institution, noting that the Governor who operates an open-door policy, will be attentive to their yearnings and aspirations upon presentation.
Yargwa called on the Association to always compare and share notes with the Ministry in order to be at par with the Sule Administration’s policy for youth and sports development.
In their earlier remarks, Director of Youth Development and Covering Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Umar Abubakar, thanked the Group for the august visit, and promised that he would continue to remind the Commissioner to do the needful on their requests.
Giving the vote of thanks, a member of the Association, Igeme Dennis Agidi, applauded the Commissioner and Ministry for the hospitality granted to members of the Association and prayed for a symbiotic working relationship, going forward.
